A design with an almost trompe’oiel effect, Prima Alpaca Totora gives the impression of jute or natural fiber with all the softness and durability of Prima Alpaca. Native reeds from the Peruvian coastline are used by local peoples to create the Caballitos de Totora, the country’s traditional fishing vessels, which also inspired the open-weave Prima Alpaca Totora Opaque Sheer. The jute-like texture gives Totora a rustic sensibility that pairs unexpectedly with its exquisitely soft hand.

Because our Prima Alpaca textiles are woven from natural – and not synthetic – fibers, they have characteristic irregularities that are considered part of their charm. The variation in dark and light fibers adds depth and movement to otherwise what would be a flat and dull surface. They also make each yard subtly distinctive and special.
